AZB, Rajani on Fairfax acquisition of 51% stake in Saurashtra Freight for 200 crore

Fairfax India Holdings Mauritius Investments Ltd  has agreed to purchase a 51% stake in Saurashtra Freight Private Limited for around Rs. 200 crore. AZB & Partners advised Fairfax India on the deal. Venture Intelligence 2016: Amarchand firms top PE and M&A league tables, AZB with most deals

Venture Intelligence has released its league tables for Private Equity and Mergers & Acquisitions deals in 2016. One year after they split, each Amarchand firm has topped a table. Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas topped the PE tables with 47 deals valued at $6.5 billion, while Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas heads the M&A tables with 38 deals valued at around $26 billion. As part of the transaction, an additional Rs. 50 crore will be invested by March 2018, for a 9% stake in Muthoot Microfin. It will also have an option to invest an additional Rs. 30 crore later. AZB, PDS lead on Havells’ acquisition of consumer biz of Lloyd Electric for 1,600 crore

Havells India is acquiring the white goods and electronics business of Lloyd Electrical and Engineering for Rs. 1,600 crore ($230 million). AZB & Partners is advising Havells India with a team led by Partner Hardeep Sachdeva. PDS Legal is acting for Lloyd Electrical and the team is led by Partner Probal Bhaduri. This is the biggest deal in the consumer durable industry. This deal will mark Havells’ foray into the larger consumer appliances industry with a product portfolio straddling air-conditioners, washing machines, televisions and more, reported VCCircle.

After the news of the Vodafone-Idea merger talks came out, Bharti Airtel has gone ahead and signed an agreement with Telenor South Asia Investments to acquire Telenor India. All this recent consolidation in the telecom industry is the result of the threat these telecom companies are facing from the aggressive entry of Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio. The board of Idea Cellular has approved the merger of Vodafone India Ltd and its wholly-owned arm Vodafone Mobile Services with the company, creating the largest telecom merger, reported PTI.
